Ephesians 4:12 ~ “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
The Cherry Valley Church of Christ was originally as the Highland Hill Church of Christ in August 1959, under the direction of Brother Lovette M. Johnson. The charter members of this congregation were his wife, Sister Alma Ruth Johnson and her mother Sister Anne Eubanks. Under the direction of Brother Webb Cox, a real estate broker, the property at 2817 Cherry Valley Boulevard was purchased and the Cherry Valley Church of Christ was established.
Brother Cox was also instrumental in establishing the Cherry Valley Day Care Center. Brother Lovette Johnson and his wife were pioneers of their day and endured many tumultuous, spiritual and financial battles. Brother Lovette Johnson and his wife, Alma, were known as great personal workers. Through their untiring efforts, they taught many individuals the gospel by the method of house-to-house evangelism. As a result, the membership of the church increased greatly by the great work of this great man and woman.
Following the decline of Brother Lovette Johnson’s health, a host of other great ministers served the church. They were in chronological order the following: Brothers Aaron Day, Woodie Morrison, Rick Hunter and James Maxwell. Each one of them made a significant contribution to the life of the church.
The congregation continued to grow under the leadership of Brother Ben Foster from December 1987 until November 2009. At the beginning of his ministry with the church, the church had about eighty-five members, since that time, the church has witnessed a membership of over two hundred members.
Brother Ben Foster is known throughout the brotherhood, not only due to his work in the ministry, but also due to his work of thirty-four years as Bible professor and as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Southwestern Christian College Terrell, Texas.
As of August 21, 2005, the Cherry Valley congregation has since moved into its new location at 4013 North Dallas Avenue in Lancaster, Texas, and Changed its name.
